The James Mai Foundation

James Mai has dedicated much of his life to service — supporting children, families, and communities across Irvine and Orange County. His philanthropic work began long before his time in public office, rooted in a belief that every child deserves stability, support, and the opportunity to succeed. Through the Bristol & Bates Foundation, James helped expand access to youth programs, family resources, and community partnerships that supported thousands of residents over the years. As his work in the community deepened, he saw firsthand the growing challenges facing local families: food insecurity, financial hardship, and gaps in access to essential services. Guided by these experiences, James established the James Mai Children’s Foundation, a dedicated nonprofit focused on providing direct support to at-risk children and families. The foundation centers its work on three core pillars: offering immediate assistance to families in crisis, helping them navigate the network of community resources, and stepping in with emergency support when no other agency can meet an urgent need. James’ commitment comes from a deeply personal place. His life has been shaped by moments when others offered help during difficult times — support that made a lasting difference. Today, he carries that same compassion into his foundation’s work, ensuring that no child in our community is left unseen or unsupported. His ongoing mission is simple: show up for those who need help, fill the gaps where systems fall short, and strengthen the families who make our community whole.

Support for Parents & Families

Bristol & Bates is committed to strengthening families in Orange County. We recognize that strong families are the bedrock of a vibrant society, and we're dedicated to providing essential resources and support to help them thrive. From parenting workshops to housing assistance, and community-building programs, we work hand in hand with families to overcome challenges and create more stable, nurturing environments. Our goal is to help every family prosper, and we're here to make that vision a reality, one family at a time.

Community Events & Outreach

Our commitment to community extends beyond conventional philanthropy. We strive to create spaces where individuals can connect, share, and thrive. By organizing local events that cater to diverse interests and needs, we aim to foster a sense of belonging and collective well-being. From workshops for children to cultural celebrations, our events serve as catalysts for positive change, promoting inclusivity and enhancing the social fabric of the neighborhoods we serve.

Combating Hunger

We work to eradicate hunger and cultivate a future where every child and family has access to nutritious food, fostering health and well-being. Committed to the fight against hunger, we believe that no child should go to bed hungry, and no family should face the anguish of food insecurity. Through innovative programs, strategic partnerships, and community engagement, we aim to break the cycle of hunger and poverty, providing children and families with the nourishment they need to thrive.
